Strategy and Sourcing

The strategy and sourcing team within Aero Engine Controls is responsible for developing commodity strategies which will deliver a high performance supply chain for the future, where possible offering a step change in performance in quality, cost and delivery. The approach taken to each commodity is highly specific and takes account of commercial, technological and economic factors to ensure that the strategy is robust and sustainable over a long period of time. We have come a long way establishing a commodity strategy process based on standard work and common working practices.

Our scope includes all of the direct materials, indirect services and consumables which Aero Engine Controls requires to function as a business. In order to ensure that the strategies meet the needs of the business and its customers, the team is careful to involve a wide range of people from across the business in the process of identifying requirements and in the actual process of strategy development.

The process is a continuous one and all of the strategies will be periodically reviewed to ensure that the targeted improvements are being delivered and so that we remain agile and able to take account of any changes in the customer or business requirements as we move forward.

We aim to:

• Clearly define customer and functional requirements (Future State)
• Understand longer term market drivers and current state to establish a plan to address the gaps
• Build strong cross functional teams
• Develop a Commodity Strategy
• Combine business requirements and functional strategies to provide a clear roadmap for future activity
• Establish the strategic source for purchased components and to identify and mitigate the risks to component Quality & Delivery associated with the change of supplier through the Source Change Activity
